Nothing has changed in Portuguese law to date. On February 16, the Portuguese government proposed a change to the law that would end the Golden Visa program. This proposal is in public consultation at the moment. A proposal is not the law. The Parliament is the only body that can vote to amend the law, and only the President of Portugal can ratify it. Until this happens, Portuguese law stands. When could a new law come into force? To proceed further, the proposed law must complete the approval process in Parliament. Based on the current Parliamentary schedule and considering the various stages involved in the legislative process, the approval process will likely take at least 35 days (as of writing on 15 April), assuming everything progresses smoothly. Can I still apply? Yes, you can still apply for the Portugal Golden Visa, but you should begin your application now. |
