El Tunco is located on the Pacific Ocean shore in the central part of El Salvador, less than 40 kilometers away from the capital city, San Salvador. It is also conveniently located around 40 km from El Salvador International Airport. This makes it easily accessible for travelers.
One of the main reasons to visit El Tunco is its reputation as the surfing mecca of Central America. The area attracts surfers of all levels, with its manageable waves making it an ideal spot for beginners to learn. More experienced surfers can use El Tunco as a base and venture to nearby locations for more challenging waves. However, even if you’re not a surfer, you can still have a great time in El Tunco. The dark beach is perfect for leisurely strolls, with the sound of the crashing waves creating a soothing atmosphere. The laid-back vibe of the town allows visitors to slow down and unwind.
El Tunco is a popular destination among backpackers and is known for its vibrant nightlife, especially on weekends. While there are no major monuments or cultural sights in El Tunco, this allows visitors to truly embrace doing nothing and experiencing the beauty of the surroundings. One thing not to miss in El Tunco is the sunset. Known for its spectacular sunsets, El Tunco offers a breathtaking display of colors, combined with the soothing sound of the ocean.
