Welcome to Part 1 of our exciting East Coast Malaysia Road Trip series! In this installment, we will be taking you on a food-filled journey as we travel from Kuala Lumpur to Termeloh, sampling some of the best local street food along the way.
Our first stop is Bentong, known for its delicious durians and famous street food rest stops. Here, we will introduce you to a unique street food called Lemang. Lemang is sticky rice filled bamboo that is soaked in coconut milk, resulting in a mouthwatering treat. It is traditionally served with Malaysian chicken and beef rendang, adding even more flavor to this already delicious dish. Make sure to visit Lemang Toki in Bentong to experience this delectable street food.
Next, we will make our way to Termeloh, another destination renowned for its durians. Here, we will introduce you to a street food specialty called durian ikan patin tempoyak, which is a fermented durian catfish head curry. This dish is truly one-of-a-kind and is considered to be one of the most unique street foods in the world. We will take you to two different street food shops in Termeloh where you can try this delicacy.
The first stop is Restaurant Claypot Patin Tempoyak, where you can watch the traditional Malaysian street food recipe for durian ikan patin tempoyak being prepared in their kitchen. The process is fascinating and will give you an insight into the culinary traditions of Malaysia.
For another version of ikan patin tempoyak, we will visit Go’bang Maju Patin Tempoyak. Here, you can try the BBQ grilled fish version of this unique dish, adding a smoky and grilled flavor to the already distinct taste of the curry.
