A Mouthwatering Journey of DAN DAN NOODLES in China’s Vibrant Street Food Scene

In this video, we will take you on a tour of Chengdu, China, which is located in the heart of Sichuan in Southwest China. Sichuan cuisine, sometimes spelled as Szechuan cuisine, is famous for its delicious and spicy dishes. Chengdu is known for its wide variety of street food, and today we will be trying four different variations of Dan Dan noodles, also known as Zajiang noodles.
China offers a plethora of amazing street foods, and over the past four years, we have been documenting them for you. In my opinion, the best noodle dish in China is Dan Dan noodles, particularly in Chengdu, Sichuan. China is renowned for its street food, and these Dan Dan noodles are incredibly good—some of the best noodles in the country.
If you are planning to visit China and explore its street food scene, while also learning about Chinese cuisine and cooking, you must try different variations of Dan Dan noodles. When the traditional Chinese Dan Dan noodle recipe is prepared on the street, you can witness the main ingredients like chili oil, soy sauce, Sichuan peppercorn, and garlic being added to the noodle bowl. The steaming hot noodles are then placed on top. It is truly satisfying to watch the process. Additionally, the signature fried ground pork, known as shaozi, is placed on top of the noodles.
When your Dan Dan noodles are served, it is essential to mix all the chili oil and ingredients thoroughly. This ensures that every noodle is coated with the flavorful oil before you take a bite. It is also quite satisfying to mix the noodles and observe the dark red oil gradually transform each noodle into a silky smooth and red delicacy.
