Exploring Street Food in Waziristan: A Journey through Miranshah, Pakistan – A Unique Culinary Experience in a Former War Zone

travel

Explore the vibrant street food scene in Waziristan, North Waziristan, Pakistan with my recent adventure alongside my friend Ali and Eva Zu Beck. Despite its troubled past, the region is now safe and welcoming to visitors, offering a unique culinary experience near the Afghanistan border.

Our journey from Islamabad to Miranshah was filled with stops to sample the diverse street food of Waziristan. From succulent BBQ kababs to flavorful Waziristan-style pakoras that tasted like chicken, we indulged in a variety of dishes along the way. A highlight of our trip was a home-cooked meal arranged by Ali, featuring an array of dishes and giant breads that left us feeling satisfied.

In Miranshah, we discovered a hidden gem of a Chapli kabab joint, serving plump beef patties loaded with coriander, chili seeds, and spices. Paired with naan bread, this hearty dish was a true delight for our taste buds. Throughout our short visit, we were touched by the warmth and hospitality of the locals, who insisted on treating us to meals without accepting payment.

Join me on this culinary journey through Waziristan and immerse yourself in the rich flavors and traditions of Pakistan’s street food scene.
